This is one of the most common questions we receive, and the honest answer has two parts: usually no, but not always – and you should not bet your job on the assumption.
What standard drug panels test for
A standard 5-panel test screens for:
- THC (cannabis)
- Opiates
- Amphetamines
- Cocaine
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
A 10-panel typically adds barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone, methamphetamine and propoxyphene. None of these tests for 7-hydroxymitragynine or mitragynine. Kratom alkaloids are not part of the standard drug-testing panels used for employment screening.
When it can be detected
Specialised panels exist. Some laboratories offer expanded panels that specifically include kratom alkaloids or mitragynine, and a growing number of employers, treatment programmes, courts and probation services use them. Some laboratories also use mass spectrometry methods capable of identifying a wide range of compounds, including alkaloids that are not on a standard panel.
Practical consequences:
- Routine pre-employment screening: very unlikely to detect kratom alkaloids.
- Expanded or specialised panels: possible.
- Court, probation, rehabilitation or pain-management monitoring: increasingly likely, because these programmes often use broader panels.
- Any test specifically requested to include kratom: detection is the point.
Do not rely on the general answer
If a drug test matters to you – for employment, licensing, sport, custody, medical monitoring or legal reasons – the only reliable approach is to not use the product. Asking us whether it will be detected is the wrong question, because it depends entirely on the specific panel being used, which we cannot know.
What about the “masking” products?
There is a large market of products claiming to mask, flush or defeat drug tests. We do not sell them and we would not recommend them. They range from useless to harmful, and attempting to defeat a drug test is often a more serious matter than the result itself.
Timing and detection windows
We do not publish detection windows for kratom alkaloids, because the published data is limited and varies with dose, frequency, individual metabolism and the assay used. Anyone quoting a precise number of days with confidence is overstating what is actually known.

Be straightforward with yourself. If your employment, licence or legal situation depends on drug testing, the safe choice is not to use these products at all. That is not a position we take to protect ourselves – it is simply the honest answer to a question with a genuine downside.
