How to Request and Read a Certificate of Analysis - Official Dollar Tabs

A certificate of analysis is the most useful document in this entire category – if you know what you are looking at. Here is how to get one and how to read it.

How to request one

  1. Get the batch number from the product packaging or the product page.
  2. Email the vendor with that batch number. Ours is [email protected].
  3. Specify “batch-matched” – you want the report for your specific batch, not a generic document.
  4. Ask for the full panel – potency, heavy metals, microbiology and residual solvents, not just potency.

A vendor who tests will send it quickly. A vendor who does not will be vague, slow or silent. That response is itself the answer.

How to read it – in this order

1. Batch number

Check it matches your packaging exactly. A report for a different batch tells you nothing about your product. This is the most important check and the one most often skipped.

2. Test date

Recent is good. An old report describes material that has long since been sold. Fresh dates suggest a vendor who retests each batch.

3. Laboratory name

Search it. Look for a real website, an address and a history of testing in this industry. An independent lab is the whole point – a report from a lab the vendor owns is not third-party testing.

4. Potency result

Look for a measured value – something like “7-hydroxymitragynine: 11.8mg per tablet”. If the report simply restates the label claim of “12mg”, treat it with suspicion. That is what a designer types, not what an instrument reports.

5. Heavy metals

Lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury, with results below the stated limits. Plants accumulate metals from soil, so this panel is genuinely necessary.

6. Microbiology

Total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli and salmonella. Drying and storage quality shows up here.

7. Residual solvents

The panel most buyers ignore and the one that reveals extraction quality. Leftover solvent from a shortcut process appears here. See residual solvents explained.

8. Methods and limits

Real reports reference analytical methods, reporting limits and units. Dense method detail is a sign of a genuine document.

Red flags

  • No batch number, or a generic “all products” report
  • No laboratory name, or a lab with no verifiable existence
  • Potency that exactly matches the label with no decimal value
  • Potency only – no purity panels at all
  • No test date, or a date years old
  • Missing signature or authorisation block

What to do with it

Keep a copy alongside your product. If you ever have a question about a batch, the report plus the batch number on your packaging is the record. Wholesale buyers should insist on batch-matched COAs with every shipment so they can answer customer questions – see wholesale.

Our approach

Every batch is independently tested and we will send the batch-matched report to anyone who asks, at no cost. Start at the Lab Results page or email us directly.
