You will see it on some kratom websites: “no withdrawal”, “non-habit forming”, “completely safe”. It is one of the most useful red flags in this industry.
Why those claims are wrong
Products containing 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine can be habit forming. Regular use produces tolerance. Sustained regular use can produce physical dependence, and stopping abruptly after dependence develops can cause withdrawal symptoms.
This is not our opinion. It is consistent with the receptor activity of these compounds and with the reported experience of a very large number of users and clinicians. Vendors who say otherwise are either misinformed about the products they sell or deliberately misrepresenting them.
Why it should worry you about everything else
Here is the part that matters commercially: a vendor willing to be untruthful about the risk profile has no particular incentive to be truthful about potency, purity, testing or sourcing either.
| What they claim | What it indicates |
|---|---|
| “No withdrawal, no tolerance” | Willing to misrepresent known effects |
| “Completely safe, no risks” | Same |
| “Lab tested” with no COA available | Testing claim is decoration |
| “Pharmaceutical grade” | Meaningless marketing language |
| “Extra strength” with no milligram figure | Avoiding the number that matters |
The claims worth trusting
Look for the boring, verifiable ones:
- Specific milligram content per unit – a number, not an adjective
- A batch number on the packaging
- A third-party certificate of analysis you can request and match to your batch
- An age restriction that is actually enforced
- A health disclaimer that states plainly the products are not FDA approved
- Honest discussion of tolerance and dependence – like our dosage guide
Why we publish the uncomfortable parts
Because we think an informed buyer is a better customer. Someone who understands tolerance and withdrawal and paces their use accordingly is far less likely to end up in trouble – and far more likely to still be a customer in two years than someone who was promised there were no risks at all and found out otherwise.
We have written about tolerance, withdrawal, interactions and when to stop – all of which cost us sales on any given day.
The tell
When you are evaluating a vendor, do not start with their reviews or their branding. Start by looking for the sentence where they tell you something you would rather not hear. If it is not there, they are selling rather than informing, and the rest of their claims deserve the same scepticism.
