What Does "Lab Tested" Actually Mean in the Kratom Industry? - Official Dollar Tabs

“Lab tested” appears on essentially every kratom product website. It is not a regulated term, there is no standard behind it, and it can mean anything from rigorous per-batch third-party analysis to a single PDF from 2023.

The range of things it can mean

VersionWhat it involvesValue to you
Per-batch independent testing, full panels, publishedA certificate of analysis for each batch, potency plus purity, from a third-party labHigh – the only version worth relying on
Occasional testing, one-off reportsSome batches tested, results not systematically publishedLimited – you cannot tell whether your batch is covered
In-house testingThe vendor tests their own productLow – not independent verification
Supplier’s test results passed up the chainThe extract supplier tested, not the finished productLow – says nothing about final pressing or blending
A PDF on the website, no batch referenceA document exists and looks officialLow – possibly decoration
No testing at all, phrase used as marketingCommonNone

What it should mean

  • Independent. A laboratory with no ownership relationship to the vendor.
  • Per batch. A report for the specific batch code on your packaging.
  • Measured. Numeric results from analytical instruments, not a restatement of the label.
  • Complete. Potency plus heavy metals, microbiology and residual solvents.
  • Recent. Dated, and dated recently.
  • Available. Published, or provided promptly when requested.

See how to read a COA.

The five questions that separate the two

  1. Which laboratory do you use, and are they independent of you?
  2. Can you send me the report for this specific batch number?
  3. Does the report include heavy metals, microbiology and residual solvents?
  4. When was your most recent batch tested?
  5. What happens when a batch fails?

Vendors that actually test answer all five quickly. The answers themselves are the filter.

Why this matters particularly for 7OH

Alkaloid content in kratom leaf varies significantly with season, region and cultivar, and extraction concentrates whatever is in the input material. Without testing, the milligram figure on a label is a target rather than a measurement – and nobody, including the manufacturer, knows the actual content. See why third-party testing matters.

Our answer to those five questions

  • Independent laboratories: yes. We do not test in-house.
  • Batch-matched reports: available on request – [email protected].
  • Full panels: potency plus heavy metals, microbiology and residual solvents.
  • Recent: every batch, before it is listed for sale.
  • Failed batches: rejected and not sold. Not discounted, not blended down.
