What Happens When a Kratom Lab Batch Fails? - Official Dollar Tabs

Testing is easy to talk about and harder to do consistently – because consistent testing guarantees that some batches fail. What a vendor does at that moment tells you whether the testing is real.

Why batches fail

Failure typeCause
Potency outside specificationVariable input material, extraction variance, blending error
Heavy metals above limitMetals taken up from soil during cultivation
Microbial contaminationDrying or storage conditions, handling
Residual solvents above limitIncomplete removal during extraction
Undeclared adulterantsContamination or deliberate addition somewhere in the supply chain

Every one of these is a normal hazard of botanical manufacturing. Failing is not evidence of an incompetent operation. Pretending a batch did not fail is.

The only two acceptable responses

  1. Reject and destroy it. The batch does not reach customers at all.
  2. Reject, then rework or reprocess under a documented quality procedure – and retest. Reprocessing is legitimate if it is controlled and the finished material is retested from scratch.

The unacceptable responses

  • Blending down. Mixing a failing batch with a passing one to bring the average into range. This is how contaminated material gets distributed while looking compliant.
  • Selling it cheap. A sudden deep discount on a product with no explanation is worth questioning.
  • Quietly shipping it. The most common and least visible failure.
  • Removing an item from the site and saying nothing. Sometimes a supply issue – sometimes a rejection.
  • Failing to test in the first place. Then there is no failure to respond to, and no quality system either.

Why this matters more for extract products

Extraction concentrates whatever is in the input material. Leaf with slightly elevated metals can produce an extract with meaningfully elevated metals. That is precisely why testing the finished extract matters more than testing the raw leaf – and why a failed extraction batch is not something you can argue your way out of. See heavy metals.

Questions worth asking a vendor

  1. What is your specification for potency, and what tolerance do you accept?
  2. What limits do you apply for metals, microbes and solvents?
  3. Can you tell me about a batch you rejected in the last year?
  4. Do you rework failed batches, and if so, how is the retest handled?
  5. Who signs off on release?

A vendor with a real quality function answers these immediately. The third question is the most revealing – a vendor who has never rejected a batch may not be testing.

Our position

Batches that fail our specification are rejected. We do not blend down, we do not discount, and we do not ship. Every batch is tested before it is listed, and reports are available on request from the Lab Results page.
