Extract powder is the least glamorous product we sell and the cheapest on a per-milligram basis. It is also the format most likely to go wrong in the hands of someone who is not prepared for it. Here is the honest assessment.
The case for powder
- Lowest cost per milligram. No pressing, no flavouring, no tablet count – you are paying for alkaloid and nothing else. Our 89% 7OH powder is the cheapest alkaloid we sell.
- Full control over the amount. You decide the exact milligram rather than accepting a manufactured tablet strength.
- Flexibility. Useful if your needs do not line up neatly with 12mg, 20mg or 30mg tablets.
- Compact storage. Two grams of extract takes up less space than three hundred tablets.
The case against powder
- You must measure accurately. The entire burden of precision shifts from the manufacturer to you.
- Small errors matter. With an 89% extract, a 5mg measuring error is a meaningful change in dose – and 5mg is roughly the weight of a grain of salt.
- You need equipment. A calibrated milligram scale is not optional. Kitchen scales read to 1g, which is 1000mg of resolution, and are useless here.
- Less forgiving. If you get a tablet dose wrong you cannot un-take it. The same is true of powder, except the odds of getting it wrong are much higher.
- Not a beginner format. There is no version of this that is appropriate for someone’s first 7OH experience.
What you need before your powder arrives
- A calibrated 0.001g milligram scale. Ours is $20 and includes a calibration weight and scoop. Buy it with the powder, not after.
- A stable, draught-free surface. Air conditioning, open windows and ceiling fans all move a milligram scale.
- Something to weigh into. The included scoop or a piece of weighing paper. Use the Tare function to zero out the container first.
- A safe storage place. Cool, dry, dark, and locked away from children and pets.
- A written record. Note the date and the amount. It is sobering reading after a month, in a useful way.
Full technique is covered in our 7OH powder guide.
Why we ship powder in separate sealed jars
Powder degrades with exposure to air, moisture and light, and every time a container is opened the entire contents are exposed. Our MIT powder bundle ships as individual sealed jars for exactly this reason – you open one, use it, and the rest stays stable.
Powder vs tablets: the honest comparison
| Choose powder if… | Choose tablets if… |
|---|---|
| You own and routinely use a milligram scale | You want zero measuring and zero equipment |
| You want the lowest possible cost per milligram | You value consistency over unit cost |
| You are experienced with concentrated extracts | You are newer to 7OH products |
| You accept the accuracy burden personally | You want the manufacturer to hold the accuracy |
If you are not sure – you are not ready
That is not a sales line. If you read the list above and felt uncertain about any of it, buy tablets instead. They cost slightly more per milligram and remove an entire category of risk.
