7OH is short for 7-hydroxymitragynine, a naturally occurring alkaloid found in kratom leaf. It is present in the plant only in tiny amounts but is considerably more potent by weight than mitragynine, so commercial products are made from concentrated extract. Read our full What Is 7OH? guide.

Mitragynine is the most abundant alkaloid in kratom leaf, at roughly 1-1.5% of dried weight. 7OH is a minor alkaloid present at well under 0.1% but far more potent per milligram. They are different molecules and a 50mg MIT tablet is not equivalent to a 50mg 7OH tablet. See the mitragynine guide.

No. Kratom is the plant and the dried leaf. 7OH is one specific alkaloid extracted and concentrated from that plant. A 15mg 7OH tablet is not 15mg of kratom – it is a concentrated alkaloid dose and it is not comparable to gram-level leaf powder.

Kratom leaf is harvested, dried and extracted with a solvent to concentrate the alkaloids, then purified toward a target 7-hydroxymitragynine concentration. The extract is assayed by an independent lab, blended, pressed into tablets or measured into liquid, and sealed. See our tablets guide.

Standard 5-panel and 10-panel drug tests screen for opioids, cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine and PCP – not kratom alkaloids. However, some specialised panels do include kratom or mitragynine, and some employers use expanded panels. If this matters to you, assume it may be detected and act accordingly.

Yes, by a very large margin. Leaf powder is used in gram quantities; concentrated 7OH is used in low milligram quantities. That difference in scale is exactly why pre-dosed, milligram-labelled formats exist and why you should never estimate a 7OH serving.

Tablets are best for most people – pre-dosed, no equipment, cheapest in bulk. Shots are fastest-acting and most portable. Powder is cheapest per milligram but requires a calibrated milligram scale and is for experienced users only.

Onset varies with body weight, tolerance, food intake and method of use, and sublingual absorption builds over time rather than hitting instantly. Do not take a second dose because the first has not kicked in. Stacking doses before the first has taken effect is the most common cause of a bad experience.

Products containing 7-hydroxymitragynine can be habit forming, like caffeine and alcohol. Regular use produces tolerance, and sustained regular use can lead to physical dependence with withdrawal symptoms on stopping. This is stated plainly throughout our site because it is true. Withdrawal after sustained regular use can include restlessness, anxiety, irritability, sweating, stomach upset, muscle aches, runny nose and insomnia. It is unpleasant and can be genuinely difficult. If you are dependent, speak to a licensed healthcare professional and taper rather than stopping abruptly.

No substance in this category can honestly be called safe, and any vendor who says so is not being straight with you. 7OH is potent at low milligram amounts, it affects the same receptor system as opioids, it can be habit forming, and combining it with other depressants carries serious risk. Because the label is a claim and the COA is a measurement. Alkaloid content in kratom leaf varies enormously with season, region and cultivar, so a vendor who buys leaf and presses it without assaying is guessing. Independent testing is what turns a marketing number into a verifiable one.
