Before 7OH dominated the conversation, kratom was mitragynine – and for good reason. It is the alkaloid the plant produces most of, and the one most published kratom research focuses on.
What mitragynine is
Mitragynine is the dominant alkaloid in Mitragyna speciosa, the kratom tree. It accounts for roughly 60% of the plant’s total alkaloid content and typically represents around 1% to 1.5% of dried leaf weight. That abundance is what makes it central: it is the compound you get meaningful quantities of simply from the leaf.
How it compares to 7OH
| Mitragynine | 7-OH | |
|---|---|---|
| Abundance in leaf | Roughly 1-1.5% of dried weight | Well under 0.1% |
| Potency by weight | Lower | Considerably higher |
| Typical milligram range | Tens to low hundreds of mg | Low single digits to tens of mg |
| Our products | Tablets, powders, drink mix | Tablets, shots, powder |
The practical point: a 50mg MIT tablet and a 50mg 7OH tablet share a number on the label and nothing else. See the full comparison.
Why it often makes a better starting point
Because it is the alkaloid present in the plant in meaningful quantity, mitragynine is closer to the traditional leaf experience than concentrated 7OH. If you are new to kratom alkaloids as a category, starting with mitragynine means starting at a lower relative potency with a wider margin for error.
Our 50mg MIT tablets are pre-dosed in strawberry or lemon – no measuring, no equipment. For something different, the 150mg MIT hot chocolate dissolves into a real cocoa drink.
Formats we sell
- Tablets – 50mg, 25 count, strawberry or lemon
- Drink mix – 150mg hot chocolate, 25 count
- Powder – 5 gram bundle in sealed jars, for measured servings
- Bundles – the Lemon MIT Bundle combines tablets and powder
What the research does and does not show
Mitragynine has been the subject of considerable laboratory and animal research – more than 7OH, largely because it is the dominant alkaloid. That research is preliminary. Laboratory and animal models are not clinical evidence, and mitragynine has no approved medical use anywhere.
We make no claims about effects. Any vendor telling you what mitragynine does for pain, mood, energy or anything else is going beyond what the evidence supports.
